As I have been basically puddle jumping around the East Coast the past few months and now a cross-country flight I thought I would share with you all my essentials for flying. Enjoy!!
First off, if I have a connecting flight I always carry on all my luggage. I am a fairly light packer but the thought of my bags not meeting me at my final destination is too much stress for this OCD/Control Freek....
Some items I ALWAYS have with me when I travel are:
- Pashmina Scarf
- Granola Bars
- Via Packets/Tea Bags
- Oatmeal Packets
- single serve nut butter packets
Having these items on-hand always makes the flight fly by (pun intended!). Most airlines still give hot water free so if you find yourself starving mid flight but refusing to pay $8 for a bag of chips.. You can nicely ask for a cup of hot water and a spoon and make yourself a mid-flight snack that should keep you full till you land.
For longer flights I also like to make sure I have a pair of comfy socks with me and also a toiletry bag filled with face wipes, lotion, toothbrush and make-up to freshen up before you land (trust me, an 18 hour flight will make you look like a hot mess!)
Remember, no matter what the climate is at your destination most airplanes are cold and blasting recycled air. Having an extra layer to put on will keep you sane & warm until you land....
Some mental tips when flying is just to take a deep breath.... Everyone on the plane is cramped and possibly annoyed by the crying baby or the crazy lady behind you who keeps using your chair as her personal support to stand up every 5 minutes (that may or may not be happening right now on this flight!!!) Keep calm, turn up your music, sip an adult libation or mocktail and savor that you will soon be at your destination!
I have 4 more hours till I land... I am off to get through some work docs, draft blog posts and perhaps a little movie streaming!
Thanks Virgin America for a great flight so far! Very impressed!
What is in your carry on? Any items you refuse to leave home without?
